I do accounting for a carpentry business. I understand that materials such as wood and paint and the factory will be sold at good wages. I’m also pretty sure that the plant machinery and tools we use are not necessarily the cost of goods sold. For me, the gray area are the little things like sand paper and rags that we use to clean the stain. We spend a lot of them, and it is a fairly large expense. I want to make sure they are properly accounted for.

In a woodworking business, would things like sandpaper and rags for wiping stains be considered Cost of Goods?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010I want to learn about the wood would work, etc. I build things out of small box on a kitchen table or even a house! But of course I want to start small. Is there a book, an instructional DVD, which is best? Or should I just be an apprentice somewhere (I do not have the time) for any equipment that you recommend? Thank you for your response!
