The Complete Manual of Woodworking

This book reminds me of other books in my collection: Reader’s Digest complete DIY manual, and similar books published by Home Depot and Lowe’s. The book attempts to cover an amazing range of topics, and what he lacks is made up in depth in the encyclopedic entry. It is well done, but also shows the strengths and weaknesses of the genre. If you are looking for something in this direction, you will not be disappointed. It is a useful reference work that will probably see a lot of use. On the other hand, if you look in depth guides to do something, you’d better look elsewhere.
The book begins with a very strong section on wood properties, discuss 20 different types of conifers, 56 species of hardwoods and veneers, plywood, particle board and fibreboard. Each type is discussed with comments on sources, properties, convenience, and the weights commonly used. After a short section on the design of furniture, three sections on Tools. They take most of the book. There are some recommendations on which tools to buy first, and later turned off. The authors did not tell us much about what it takes to choose a tool. Each tool is the same as everyone has recommended, with sections on typical uses and how to fill. On the other hand, the coverage of technology is incredibly dedicated to the handful of pages each tool. There are also a number of techniques, especially by those of us who have set a less complete tools.
The authors then a short section on creating the home workshop, then a chapter on carpentry. Like most old books, construction of dovetail joints is the show of hands instead of a router and a number of devices dovetail. This is supported by sections in bending wood, veneer monitoring, cutting and finishing.
my copy, even though it was printed in 2000 was written in 1989. The book is of a certain age, particularly in the sections of power tools. The most striking examples are the images of DeWalt power tools in a sickly green color that their current brand must be preceded by yellow. In most sections, which makes much difference, but in places that you want the second edition. The authors discuss tools and saws combination radial depth, while ignoring modern additions such as chainsaw. The book reads like one written by a committee, Bland, language unopinionated. This is not a book you enjoy reading from cover to cover, but this is probably not the intention. It is true, as an encyclopedic reference work considered.
This is a good book to buy in the early stages of learning woodworking. I recommend this book as a good second book, but first as a book, because it’s too little guidance for the novice.

I have this book shortly before the “fundamentals of the craft, and enjoyed the detailed discussion of wood types. However, I sought a little more” how-to “information. It is not enough to tell how this or that tool to rip is good, as a beginner, I want to know what mining, and how to deal with different tools. I found that the “fundamentals” is over flexibility for this type of information. With all her beautiful pictures I’ll probably post more about this book on my table in my business.

This book is a guide from A to Z describes subjects as varied as the type of wood, their uses, power and hand tools, accessories are used, wood carving, veneer, millwork, design etc etc. I
ensure that it is an investment – a fully illustrated (in color) book of reference – a complete manual.

I used this book in various projects. The book shows you how wood efficiently, without getting up in the details of specific technical work undertaken. It usually indicates you understand (even for novices) and for the development of wood-account, the differences between forest types, the three-dimensional analysis of the average room furniture and more. . PROS **
affects almost all aspects of woodworking. **
Informed of the material with which you work. . . WOOD. ** detailed dimensions
average “feel good” furniture. EX: the height of kitchen cabinet is usually 36 “CONS
** Are you the type who are happy to project books, this does not work.

After this book bought, I am I do not recommend it for beginners or others. The book covers everything you could want or need on the basis of the woodwork, including the types of wood, tools, assembly techniques, etc. know that the book is clear, the layout may include a rich text files, a layman.
I think this book is a worthwhile investment.
